Robert Williams, poet and noted scholar of both Dylan Thomas and R. S. Thomas. Robert will sign a limited number of copies of ‘This Book and Other Stories’ at its launch in Draiocht. He is perhaps best known for his A Concordance to the Collected Poems of Dylan Thomas.
His poems reflect both his personal journey and the Celtic literary traditions of his forebears. Many of the newer poems are triadic in form. Readers familiar with the Welsh and Irish languages will be pleased to see a robust usage in these contemporary verses.
“All my years as a scholar and then a publisher, all I did was to occasionally circulate small gatherings of poems by hand. Now is the time to have the poems published for a wider audience.” — Robert Williams
Draíocht Art Gallery proudly hosts the second Open Air Painting Competition in Adare after a very successful launch in 2017.
Set in the picturesque village of Adare, this competition gives you the opportunity to sit and paint among it’s old world historical charms beside the beautiful River Maigue. For many years artists flock here to capture its scenic beauty in paint, but this time to compete.
Draíocht, Adare’s premier contemporary Art Gallery is delighted to organise a Plein Air competition that boasts fantastic prizes and the opportunity to meet, talk and paint with fellow artists. Prize winning artists will have their work displayed in Draíocht throughout September.
Beautifully evocative paintings of children at play on sandy Irish beaches of the West Coast.
Born in London, Vivienne St Clair worked as an illustrator before moving to Ireland in 1986. Painting professionally since 1993, Vivienne has held several solo shows and shown in many group exhibitions. She has had work accepted by both the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Ulster Academy for their annual exhibitions and has shown in galleries in the UK, US, France and here in Ireland. She sees her work as a journey, an exploration of the language of painting. For her it is about the emotion in the paint, the marks and textures, the subject is only the starting point for her painting. She currently lives and works in Kilmoyley, Co. Kerry, close to the coast, where a new journey has begun.
Finally, finally our hands have thawed and we have put together the February newsletter. Plenty of fresh art from existing and new artists to Draíocht. We find it very difficult to keep the ‘scent of Adare Manor’ namely, La Bougie in stock, particularly the Mission Fig scent. Bronze sculptures and ceramic shelves have been replenished introducing a few new artists.
